Educator & Performer

Mr. Charles Bartlett is the leader of The Charles Bartlett Jazz Ensemble and co-founder of the very popular Bartlett Contemporaries (Remix) Band. He is a seasoned trumpeter and music educator in his area. And as a veteran musician in the New York area, his accomplishments span over 30 years of successful live venue performances. He also holds a Masters Degree in Applied Music from NYU. He was an acclaimed Professor of Jazz Studies at York.

The Charles Bartlett Jazz Ensemble and Bartlett Contemporaries have performed throughout the Tri-State area of N.Y./ N.J & PA., as well as extensive performances in North America for the past 30 years. The Bartlett Contemporaries have performed from New York to the Caribbean, Montreal to South Beach Florida for such notables as Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee and Essence Communications.

In addition, Charles and his group have performed with such jazz giants as Onaje Allen Gumbs, Omar Hakim, Jennifer Holiday and the late greats Stanley Turrentine and Dizzy Gillespie.

Charles, who continues to enjoy high visibility among his peers, is passionate about his ability to be an ideal ambassador for Phaeton’s FX-1100 Custom designed flagship model trumpet.

He’s also the recent recipient of the Legends of Queens Music Award, the NAACP Community Involvement Award and a New York State Proclamation, which list Charles as one of Queens living legends along with Roy Haynes and Jimmy Heath.

Several years ago he launched “The Bartlett Foundation”, which assists promising students in their quest to obtain music scholarships as they move ahead with their graduate studies.

He continues to remain a Staff musician at the iconic St. Albans Congregational Church. This church has established itself as the premier Jazz Mecca of Queens, N.Y.

He earned and still holds first chair and Solo and lead trumpet with the York College Big Band, performing throughout the tri-state area while currently working on a solo jazz/hip-hop project he has named as “Nu-Bop.”
