A freelance trumpet player from the Chicago metro area, Randy is currently the trumpet player and arranger for the popular 6-piece Chicago jazz and swing combo, “Bopology”, as well as trumpet for the popular Chicago area band, The Roy Vombrack Orchestra. Versatile on both the jazz and classical side, Randy is currently a member or adjunct member of the Crystal Brass Quintet, The Northbrook Brass Quintet, Old Dominion Brass, the Dana Legg Stage Band, the Bobby Sanders Big Band, and the Vito Buffalo Orchestra serving as soloist and split lead. Performance credits include Steve Houghton, Terry Gibbs, Rob McConnell, Pete Christlieb, Bobby Shew, Phil Wilson, Ilene Graff, Myron Floren, and Joanne Castle. Randy has performed for various Variety Club telethons, backing a number of outstanding performers from throughout the U.S. and Canada. Professional affiliations include MENC, IMEA, IEA, NEA, and AF of M.

Randy is currently the Director of Bands at Barrington High School in Barrington, Illinois since 1992, and received both bachelors and masters degrees in Music Education and Performance from the University of Iowa.

Randy currently plays the Phaeton model 2020 “Anniversary” model (bright silver finish with gold plated slides), the Phaeton FX (custom model), and the Phaeton pocket trumpet.
